Our social media presence is growing! Not only do we have Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Bluesky accounts... we now have a You Tube channel set up with our first video! Kicking it off is a playthrough of a two-player game between two Starter Pack Wickens: Jarrek (Strength Deck) and Phos (Health Deck). Who will be the last Wicken standing? Find out by clicking the link below!
We will be printing our first official prototypes soon! This means we needed to make sure we were happy with the final balance of the game before sending everything off.
Pack box art itself was made by the super talented @willroqq and looks absolutely stunning! This pack also comes with some extra deckboxes for each Wicken to help store and organise your decks. Here is also a glimpse at the first Expansion Deck. Along with a fresh new deck, you will also get another deck box to keep your collection of decks neat and tidy. But I will admit... these are not the real boxes! These are our own prototypes we printed and cut out ourselves to mock up how everything will look. We have secured our printing company to get the product made, but as Wickens is yet to launch, we haven't started the process of printing yet! But these will look pretty accurate to how they will turn out once we have a successful Kickstarter.
Our journey into tabletop games is built on a long and rich history of working inside the video games industry. Working on games is in Roger's DNA as much as playing them is in Sam's. So find out more about Roger's games industry history in "The Top Ten Games That Influenced My Career" - its in the menu above! or...
After many hours of writing, typesetting and strategizing, our Kickstarter was finally approved today! For those who don't know, you can't just upload anything to Kickstarter. They approve it first before it can go live, which is what they did today for our project! So a pre-launch page has now gone live, with just a little detail... and more to come.
Oh my! The new year has got off to a great start... we finally have some boxes to show you! Here they are at last! And now we can get on with some of that photography we have been threatening to do for so long. Do you like it? Its only a prototype, but please let us know your feedback.
Today we had a heated debate about the words "deck" and "building"....
Is it Deck Building?
Or Deckbuilding?
Or maybe Deck-building?
Or possibly even Deck-Building?!!!!
Which is best?! Our research would suggest that everyone does it differently. So we have come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter! But we would love to hear what you think so if you have an opinion, please...
Every game designer will tell you that the fun of a game is in the detail. So whilst the art comes together, we have been working hard on all the copy that goes with it. Every Wicken has a backstory, every backstory is set inside a world, and every world has a history. Storytelling is vital to help players feel connected to the game and setting. Today we have finished the backstories for all the Wickens. Here's another sneak peak!
The design of Wickens demands a huge amount of art, but it is coming together one piece at a time. We have FOUR decks complete now, with two more decks in development. But the crucial pieces are the key art for boxes and Kickstarter. Here's a sneak peak, but not too much, sorry!
Today we launched our website and announced our first tabletop game! Click here to find out more about Wickens: The Deck Building Game!
We are so thrilled and excited to be starting this new adventure. We are planning on bringing you a brand new tabletop deck-building game via Kickstarter in the near future.
Sam has been obsessing over balance for two years now. And as we get closer to ordering our first print run, it has become vital that we lock on what goes on every card; the starter cards, each mechanic, every value and the number of creatures in each deck. A few values have been tweeked, but it he is now ready to lock it down....
Hey where's all the art?! Well it may not look like much but this is real progress! We have been talking to manufacturuers and suppliers all over the world to see if they can help us with our vision for our first game. We now have a real idea of what it will take to get this manufactured.
Really good to be at the #ukgamesexpo in the #playtestuk zone with Sam Walkden testing our game on our target audience! Reaction has been really positive! Can't wait to be able to tell you all more...
There is so much to do! Writing copy, briefing artists, talking to manufacturers, ordering bar codes, checking the legals... there is a seemingly endless list of taks, but we are knoocking them off the list one by one.
A big thank you to Eclectic Games in Reading for hosting us at our first ever public playtest today! About 20 people came along and we were amazed at how fast everyone picked up the game mechanics and were able to play unaided. A really good sign! A big thank you to anyone that came - we know it was cold and wet but glad you showed up!
