Who We Are

Deep Etch Games is a family run Indie Games Company. Formed during lockdown, the founders realised that they could take their deep knowledge of the games industry and start building their own games. Sadly, full time jobs and education got in the way for too long, but in 2024, the father and son team, supported by their long suffering friends and family started the design, manufacturing and publishing of their first title.

"Its Simulations All The Way Down" was published on itch.io in early 2024. 

Now the team are hard at work on their first tabletop deckbuilding card game. "Wickens: The Deckbuilding Game" is in full development, aiming for a launch in 2025.

Sam Walkden

Sam is a talented games designer and is the principal designer and producer of Deep Etch Games' first game. 

He has a Masters in Game Design from Falmouth University which he was awarded in 2023. He also graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2022 with a 2:1 in Philosophy.

He designed many games over that period as prototypes, but published his first game in 2023. He designed, wrote, produced, programmed and launched "Its Simulations All The Way Down" entirely on his own. It is available on itch.io. 

From an early age Sam has made, written and prototyped many games. But he has always been drawn to deckbuilding games, like Magic: The Gathering, Slay The Spire and Disney's Lorcana. These days, he is an expert level Lorcana player, regularly playing at clubs, whilst entering - and frequently winning - tournaments.   

Sam is Co-Founder and Director of Deep Etch Games. 

Roger Walkden

Roger is an experienced games and entertainment industry veteran, having worked in the industry for over 25 years.

He currently runs his own consultancy business as well as being the Co-Founder and CEO of Deep Etch Games. 

Roger’s first position in the games industry was over 25 years ago, at Activision, working on franchises like Quake, Total War, Doom, Call of Duty, Wolfenstein, Tony Hawk, Marvel, Disney, Star Wars and many more.  

At EA Partners he was responsible for EMEA business relations and partnerships such as Crytek, Epic, Starbreeze, Kuju, Valve, Funcom and Respawn.

He then joined Microsoft as Chief of Staff for Xbox European Studios, working with six Xbox studios with over 500 employees. Later, he ran the Microsoft HoloLens Studio in EMEA. 

More recently Roger ran Unity Games & Entertainment Studios running an end-to-end full stack development global team of over 400 developers.
